I have a 94 volvo penta 5.0 fl pmda. Which is actually a ford motor. However, it runs great most of the time. Lately, if we full or 3/4 full the throttle to pull out a skier it dies. we have to full it and then pull it back till the engine seems to catch up and then full it again. Is it because the carb is flooding with gas? The air filter is clean. This is silly too but which screw on the carb controls gas mixture? Thanks to anyone can help.

most carbs have low speed adjustment only-for idle -internal air and fuel jets are not adjustable-lots of carb threads on power loss-happy digging

Sounds like a good candidate for a carb overhaul.
Im wondering on the flooding at full or 3/4 throttle tho, have you deen it do this or is it just an assumetion?
I supose it could be a float that is starting to sink and letting the fuel level get to high and when you hit the gas it runs over the top.
Any way id start with the carb, cheap easy and cant hurt.

Sounds more like fuel starvation at full throttle..
Time to change filters, check the pick up screen in the tank and work your way up the fuel system.

Sometimes that is just the nature of how a carb works. As long as the enrichment jets are working you may just have to alter your technique a bit. Basically, there is a lag because you have a huge vacuum loss when you open the throttle plates instantly. You just set up an instantaneous lean condition and that is why the boat bogs.
