Decal Outline From Sun

Hey Everyone, just joined the site and could use a little help:

I recently purchased a 91 Bayliner Capri and it came with some outdated stickers/decals that were placed on the swim deck. I have removed them but now left with an outline of what used to be there along with some yellowing. Does anyone have any sugestions on restoring the finish to match the rest of the white on the boat? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jason

Welcome to iboats

You can "try" compounding but I am afraid that you have paint fade and the outlines just have to sun bleach away. Another alternative is wet sanding but you are talking real work.

Can you get a graphics shop to re-make decals the same size? ;)

Bob VT, Thanks for the welcome and the reply. As much as I would LOVE to get re-makes of NO FEAR and SEX WAX stickers on the boat, I just can't seem to convince myself LOL......I tried today to go over it with some 1200 but it didn't do much of anything and is throwing the whole boat off. Im also stuck with the same problem on the sides where the "Capri" badge(s) used to sit (missing).

Sanding the area that was under the sticker won't do anything, that's the correct unfaded color, the color around the sticker (the rest of the boat) is the discolored part.

You need to sand and buff the entire boat to try and get back to the original color and it still may not match.

So in time, would the sun actually "bleach" the yellow?

Perfect, that gives me a great excuse to be out on the water then. I'll tell the wife in time it will go away and I need to keep in sun/water as long as possible lol. But on a serious note (reality) I will give it the rest of the season to see if it gets better then over the winter if needed, I will do a full wetsand/polish (oh the joy)

It will fade faster when on the water due to the reflection off the surface too, see if that helps.
