decarbing 4 strokes?

Going through several postings that refered to de-carbing process for coked up engines. I have a 4 stroke and manual shows no schedule for this. Is this something that mainly exists in 2 cycles due to the oil gas mixing? I also have an older 2 cycle that I intend to de carb now after hearing of this.

A 4/stroke does not run a oil mix thru the combustion chamber so shoud not need it, at lest not as normal maint--Bob
