hey, i have read the instructions on decarbing the motor on FAQ , i still have a couple of questions i was hoping yall could answer...

1. mix 1 can or 3/4 can of seafoam with 1 gal. of pre-mixed gas in a seperate tank.

2. bring motor up to operating temp. using regular gas tank.

3. disconnect fuel line before or after the fuel filter/ water sep.?( if you coming from the tank) then connect it to the seperate mixture tank.

4. run motor for about 10 minutes, adjust throttle to prevent her from dying.

5. shut her down and let it sit for about 30 minutes.

6. run her again with regular tank and watch for gunk/smoke. do i run her out on the lake wide open throttle or at port with high idle? and for how long?

7. change spark plugs and run her again.

also . can this process help from her not idling correctly? i think the carbs are gummed up which is causing her to bog down at WOT and wont idle..but if i keep priming her she will run... i replaced the fuel filter and primer bulb, and fuel lines. the motor is a 1996 johnson 150 ocean runner...

thanks everyone!!

how do I know if I should repeat with the mixture tank, what are the tell tale signs? thanks

Re: decarbing question after reading FAQ

When you have no more heavy smoke after treatment, check the tops of the pistons by removing the spark plugs; they should be clean. If the pistons are not clean, repeat the process.

A hard run on the water should clear the remains of the de-carbon treatment.

The de-carbon treatment has virtually no effect on the carburetors and is not supposed to have. In fact, engines such as yours with the schrader valve are properly de-carbed using that, which bypasses the carburetor completely.

Contrary to the instructions, when the job is thoroughly done the spark plugs will be as clean as the rest of the firing chamber.

Re: decarbing question after reading FAQ

You should use an aerosol and the schrader valve on your primer solenoid.

You will need a $2.00 injector hose from your dealer. Either the aerosol treatment from one of the major outboard manufacturers or SeaFoam's DeepCreep will work with the injector. If you use OMC/BRP Engine Tuner, the directions are on the can.

The reason Tashasdaddy says to use the 3/4 can is because you need the remaining 1/4 can for the spray bottle for spraying in the cylinders when you remove the plugs. Try reading the instructions again for further clarification.

As Ezeke mentioned, due to your setup, you can use the aerosol, or if you bought the liquid Seafoam already, use the directions provided in the faq.

Re: decarbing question after reading FAQ

so...what is the old codger mechanic i know talking about when he says he has seem way too many people destroy their motors using the aresol that screw onto the schrader valve....because they dont know how to use it properly...

they end up burning a hole in the top of their pistons he says

is this a real possibility? and if so why?

i was going to buy some of the stuff, but he talked me into the additive instead..

now that I found an almost totally clogged exhaust passage in the 90 hp i am rebuilding, i am thinking the carbon gung can really hurt a motor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
