I read in another post about decarbing a motor with seafoam. What is seafoam? Can you damage a motor by using it. In this particular post it said that they gained a 5 psi per cyl. I have a 63 merc 650 and compression ranges from 130 to 115. Could this even up the compression?

Follow these instructions, would recomend leaving it in overnight because its the first time its been done. be prepared for extreme smoking when you restart it.
Decarbing
------------------------------
Hairy,

Hey it's a piece of cake. I did it a few weeks ago out in my driveway in Pleasant Valley and it smoked so much that you probably saw it in OP.

But it's a good thing to do

Re: Decarboning(sp?) a motor

Just wanted to post a follow up.
Was running seafoam treatment on muffs. Run 15 minutes with seafoam, let sit 15-20 minutes and repeat. After about an hour of this I noticed I developed another oil leak.(had just repaired oil seals behind prop)I was worried that I destroyed the new seals I had put in. I pulled the prop and the seals still looked like they were in good condition. I drained the oil and it was milky white. Pulled the lower unit, then waterpump and found the waterpump base seal was bad. Now I am going to replace the both water pump seals a few gaskets and o'rings. I also noticed that the waterpump base was cracked. I will be heading to the store later to see if I can purchase all these parts. In addition to this I had a little wire harness fire. It had completely deteriorated to the point it shorted out. I repaired most of it but the 2 AWG4 wires just stub out of the plug. Does anyone have any advice on how to splice a length of wire to the stub. I tried to solder them together but didn't have much luck. Also bought an aluminum sleeve that you slide the wire into and screw down on both sides. It was too bulky. I only have about an inch of wire to work with.

New update for those that care :p

Replaced waterpump base oil seal, O'ring as well as the whole water pump. Replaced choke solenoid, and water pump diaphrams. Was able to repair wiring harness with a bigger stronger more powerfull solder gun :D Not sure how long it will last but I made sure I could damn near swing from it. Ran it on muffs for 2 15 minute intervals and did not develope any leaks. Looking forward to taking her out to see how she runs.
