I feel like this is a bit of a stretch, and I'm not sure if this is the right place for my questio but I'm going to give it a shot anyway.

Does anyone know a good/honest mechanic that would be willing to look at a 1998 Mercury classic 50 outboard? I need a tune up and would also like to get a diagnostic of the pee valve (impeller) as it does not seem to be cooling very well. I ilive in the Palm Springs area and most shops that I have called don't seem to be interested in working on an outboard this old. However it ran like a champ last summer and I would like to keep it on the boat if possible. I am willing to travel as far as Los Angeles or even San Diego area on a good reccomendation.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I used this guy (Marty): http://imperial.backpage.com/Genera...repair-all-brands-and-sizes-san-diego/1966118
The phone # is buried about 1/4 way down from the top. Kind of a low key operation (he was working out of his garage in El Cajon when he did my work). But, had no problem working on my '82 Mariner and I had no issues with his work or integrity. Not sure if he's still in business because my link to his previous web page directs me elsewhere now. But, for the cost of a long distance phone call ...... :)
