I am looking at purchasing a Mercury 140hp engine.

My transom height is 580 millimetres, will a 25 inch leg engine be suitable or will the transom have to be lengthened to accomadate this length leg. The length of the transom is closer to a 25 inch leg than a 20 inch leg.

Any advice would be appreciated

Looks like your transom is 22.8 Inches in height. You may get by with the 25" leg if you can mount the motor a couple of holes up. Or, theres always these, that will get you up to where you need to be.

web page

How much tuck is there in your transom, Matiu?

Did you measure it from top to bottom or from top, vertically, to the level of the bottom. Often the second method measures a lot shorter than the first. It is the second method that measures the engine shaft length.

My guess is that a 20" shaft would suit your boat.

Rick's suggestion of a fixed plate would make either engine fit well.

Good luck.
