I'm sure you've all seen those "donate your car"billboards?
Perhaps many of you have seen the donate your boat billboards?
Well I was looking for a small boat that I could take fishing and I found one on Ebay through a place called Boat Angel Ministries.
It was on ebay (Item # 110905092237) and it claimed to be a 72 duo craft with a 1959 Johnson 35 hp motor on it.
I won the auction and only paid $152.50 for it (Plus the ministries $249.00 admin fee (no complaints))
They do have a refund policy if the item was misrepresented.
Once I got the boat home, I ran the model and serial (which were NOT given on the auction page). And it turns out it isn't a Johnson motor. According to the Model number (22DE17B) and the serial number (731165) it is a GALE engine.. and it's not 35 hp, it's only 25. And it's not a 59', it's a 1960 (so a smidge newer)
1960 Models
25 H.P. Deluxe Electric
22DE17B
The motor is NOT seized but has been sitting for 12 years. I haven't been able to start it yet, but I'm thinking so long as I get the bad fuel out, clean everything and maybe replace a few parts, it should run.
My question is, should I ask for a refund since the boat was misrepresented? The motor is not what it states, and to be honest, although I know that Johnson, Evinrude and Gale all kind of were together at one point, is the Gale just a cheap johnson knock off? am I going to play hell finding any parts for this thing?
I love the classics, which is why I wanted this boat in the first place, but if I can't get it running, it's of little use to me..
I have until tomorrow to enact my refund policy if I so choose, but did I really lose out?
Please let me know as soon as you can if you think I got a bum deal. .
Thanks,
SgtDeadeye
