Deck Boat

I am looking at a 1977 Sylvan 19' deck boat. it has a ford 302 V8. anyone have any thoughts on this boat. interior in excellent shape; lower unit looks rugged but no oil leakes; Is this going to be a gas guzzler? they are asking $3500.00. I live on a chain of small lakes and I like the idea of a deck boat but the V8 concerns me plus being 25 years old... any thoughts would be appreciated..Thanks....

Nothing wrong with the engine, it's the drive I would be worried about.<br /><br />The old OMC I/O's did not have stellar reputations and parts are getting scarce.<br /><br />$3,500.00 seems high.

Hmn. 3500.00 does sound high! try 2500 can't go wrong with an american made v8 (ford, chevy, dodge) the omc drives like djohns said are hard to get parts for, but if you take care of it (IE stay out of shallow water and change gearlube and armeral the rubber skirt (if it has it)) <br /><br />Good luck!
