........deck coating........

i've done a lot of reading on the different products-users comments on forums, manufacturers claims & recommendations, etc-regarding prep & end result. i even found a durabak website AND a link to the same website that gives contradicting prep recommendations.
so here's my situation.....and then my questions-
boat is a 100% salt water 1976 20' proline cc. it shows every bit its age. and then some. due to 2 kids in college, insufficient income, not being a relative of trump....i just smile every time it starts & head out into the great south bay :D
whatever is left of the gelcoat-from waterline to deck-isn't too gel-coaty anymore. no shine & no amount of elbow grease brings much out. in particular, from the top of the gunwales down to the entire deck is just plain scuzzy. even straight bleach only gets it to look 'cleaner then it was', but still pretty scuzzy. so i figure one of the available deck coatings will at least remove some of the embarrassment....of my 1976 hull
my question is......will ANY of the available coatings do this-satisfactorily adhere to the no-shine gel coat WITHOUT spending the day sanding with 40-60 grit paper???? not sure how much longer this thing will float, so i'm not looking to do an all-out resto, or even waste my time, energy & $$. i get what is the 'right' way, but i've seen 'clean, prime, roll', as well as 'sand, clean, prime & roll' & i'm looking to get a couple seasons looking 'cleaner'.
so, will 1 of the available coatings 'stick' to the deck without the added work of sanding?

Re: ........deck coating........

Prep is everything for a coating job, you can apply your coating anyway you want but without the proper prep it won't last and you'll waste time and money.

I personally would sand with at least 100 grit to give the coating something to bond/grip. Since you're going with a textured coating I don't think you'll need to any fine sanding, just the 100 grit. I would use the required primer as well.

A quick once over with 120/220 Grit on a D/A sander, some hand sanding where you can't get the D/A into, and then use this method...
Low cost and gets it done...

You can roll and tip it and get some really nice results as evidenced by several members on the forum who have used it...
Thanks go out to "Woodonglass" for documenting the procedure...
Good luck and be sure to post up some pics for us to see the transformation...
