Hello all. Great form! I have a 1986 bayliner capri 13'. Rotted deck and soggy stringers. 2 questions. #1 do I have to support the hull if I'm replacing the stringers and deck? If so any ideas how. #2. The seat platform is filled with foam. Can I brace the platform and remove the foam making a storage box under the seats? Any help would be great. Thanks xd

Re: deck/stringer replacment

hi....welcome to i boats.!

this is the absolute best forum on the net....(for many reasons)....its a real family here. and the information is the best by the top pros around!.
all of our mods are very talented in every aspect of boating end experts in theire feilds....i hope you like it here.

the hull must be supported well when replacing stringers and foam.....if you do not support it i could warp and get a "hook"...(this is the worst thing that can happen to the project)

the hull is uasually "ok" on a bunk trailer....if the trailer is matched correctly to the boat.....if it is on rollers you will need to make a few more braces...(just like bunks) under the hull.....(dont over think this....just support it with long 2x 10s)

the job will take any where from one week to a month depending on how much time you put into it!.

as far as the seats......just rip the foam out of the base and either glass in the interior or add more screws to the base so it doesnt move at all.

one thing i have found.....it really helps to post pics here every day, that is your prize at the end of the day after working on the boat....the encouragement you get from the guys keeps you going when you dont wanna do it any more.

oh yeah.....read read read there is a lot of capri restos on this site.

hope that helps

cheers
