It's time to put the deck down in my boat and i was wondering how i avoid drilling into an old rivit hole in the rib of the boat, and stringers..any ideas.

May be by adding something on top of the whole stringer,(strip of alum or something)

Re: Decking Question for alum boat

I faced the same problem on my last project boat. I went to a machine shop and had square "u" channels made that fit over the existing structure. 8' pieces of .063 aluminum made into channels were $13 each. They are probably cheaper now as everyone needs work.

I riveted or screwed them into place providing a new piece for attaching the deck to.

good luck.
