What would be the best way to replace the rotted decking on a 1988 bayliner and best product to seal and water proof the wood? This is our first boat and want to repair it right so it will last

Sadly, if the deck is rotted, then the fiberglassed wood structure (transon core, stringers, etc.) is most likely rotted, too. Especially on a boat known for poor quality construction in the late 80s.

Looks like a total rehab. More then likely you're looking at deck, stringer, transom replacement. There's a ton of info on this forum so take some time to read thru some of these threads. You definately have your work cut out for you! Good luck!

I agree with all the above. There is NO quick EASY fix for this boat. Deck, Stirngers and Transom. $1,500 - $2,500 budget to get her back on the water

I think the above $ estimate is if you do all the work yourself. I think you have to love the layout of the boat, and know all the mechanicals are sound - before tackling such a project. Certainly there could be other reasons. The folks here are the best at walking you through it, answering questions as you go, keeping your spirits up. You can do it!
