Hey guys, does anyone know how to decode the Bayliner HIN?
I just bought an 87 Bayliner Capri openbow, the HIN is BL3J18CXD787. It is titled as an 18' boat, but NADA boat guides doesn't show an 18' option in 1987 for the Capri.

Hmmmm... they do show an 18' option for the Cobra series... and mine does have a 5.0L V8 that the seller mentioned was a Cobra... I thought this meant it was a Ford engine (Mustang Cobra?) but another friend of mine took a look at the engine and told me it was a GM engine.
Now that I am doing some research I see that my OMC stern drive is probably a Cobra 800... can anyone expand on that? How does the Cobra moniker apply to the engine and/or stern drive?
Looking on Wiki I see that there were two 305ci (5.0L) GM engines produced in the 80s. There was a low output LG4 and a high output L69. Does anyone know if either of these two engines are in my boat, or if it is completely different?

I'm going to call Bayliner on Monday to get a manual sent out to me, just wanted to get a handle on some of these Qs beforehand. Thanks!
