Deep Cycle battery question.

I have a 5.0Gi PEFS (fuel injection). I recently noticed that the manual cautions against using a deep cycle battery as the starting battery on fuel injected engines. Does anybody know the reason for this? I have a deep cycle and starting battery in my boat and have been putting the battery selector switch to "Both" and everything has worked fine. Just wondering if I am doing something wrong.

Re: Deep Cycle battery question.

deep cycle has a lower CCA rating that can lead to low voltage while starting and the fuel management computer doesn't like that. Normally this would only be a problem if the engine has to be cranked for a long period of time before it starts.

Re: Deep Cycle battery question.

It depends on the size of the deep cycle battery and the requirements of the motor it's starting. The deep cycle batteries I use have 845 marine cranking amps and they work just fine for my boat.

Thanks guys. So far it always starts right up, but I will certainly keep that in mind. I was just wondering what the basis of the caution was, and I now know. It makes sense to me.

Re: Deep Cycle battery question.

I run two deep cycle batteries. No problems starting the boat in warm weather. When it gets cold I'll use both for good luck
