Just bought my second one! Love to do breaded chicken and battered fish. BUT, I'm having trouble finding reasonably priced peanut oil to use in it. Found a few gallons at an Aldi store for about $6.50 each and bought all they had. But it's gone and I'm looking at prices elsewhere (Aldi's is all out) and blanching at what I see. Even on-line, it appears inflated. (i.e., $36.00/gallon, and similar)

Two questions:

1. Does anyone have suggestions regarding a vendor for peanut oil that won't require a home equity loan to pay for it?

2. Do any of you have consistent success using something else?

Sams club. Either peanut oil, or a deep fryer blend (cheaper)

Re: Deep Fryer...

Check your local farmers market, they usually have a decent price on 5 gal. containers.

Ah -ha! Got a super Wal-Mart - a bit of a drive from my place, but they have Crisco peanut oil at $12.86 a gallon.

Looked at the local Sam's club and found both the peanut oil and the blend, but only in 4.5 gallon quantities - a little large for my handling/storage.

Thanks guys.

Re: Deep Fryer...

how 'bout some good old lard?

Just watched a Diners, Dives, an Drive-ins show featuring a place in New Orleans that specializes in oysters, and only uses lard to deep fry them. Looked pretty darn tasty :D
