My oil cap cracked on my Mercury 200 EFI outboard ( port motor )causing oil to get all over the inside of the cowling & motor. I'm wanting to remove the oil, dirt & the old corrosion protection so I can spray a new coat of corrosion protectant on but I'm neverous on what type of cleaner I should use. And one that won't dryrot & crack any parts on the motor. What is my best solution for this issue.

Just use a mild degreaser. Or you can water some of it down, such as mean green Etc. Don't let it dry on it. Some carwashes have a motor degreaser that is o.k.<br /> Tim

One of the best cleaners I have ever used is Castrol Super Clean, it works well as a degreaser, cleans lime depoists and is biodegradeable

Re: Degreasing / cleaning motor

Thanks for all the replies that helps me alot. I have those products actually on the shelve @ home. I use the Castrol degreaser & Simple Green on alot things. I guess what my concern was is using the power water sprayer @ a low level to spray it off when complete.
