Hello.

I just bought a new electronic ignition. Delco EST.

I wired it up and started the engine. Everything worked fine. I put in the jumpercable and adjusted the timeing till 6 deg. btdc as my manual says.

THen I took the jumper away and put in the black wire.

When I then use my strobe I can see that the ignition foes up to 20 deg. around 1500 rpm.

Anyone knows how too adjust the advance curve or is there a box or something I can get too make this work??

Thank U very much for all help and tips.

Re: DELCO EST.. The advancecurve goes up too fast. OMC cobra. 4,3L

in my 88 OMC manual, the advance curve for the 4.3 shows centrifugal advance starting at 0* at 1000 rpm, about 6* at 1500, 8.5* at 2000, 10* at 2500, 12* at 3000 and 12* at 3200 which is full centrifugal advance. (for total advance add your 6* base timing to these values

As long as you have the right dist, you need to find out the right procedure for checking advance on it, I seem to recall having to disconnect something on those, I have ancient points so that's all the experience I have in marine systems....

Sounds like the module may be defective.

Re: DELCO EST.. The advancecurve goes up too fast. OMC cobra. 4,3L

I just purchased this kit for my 1989 Fours Winns 180 Horizon with a 4.3L V6 OMC Cobra stern drive with breaker points ignition system.

Did you figure out the problem?

Based on my research I should be able to swap out the old distributor, coil, wires and ESA module, install this kit and run the engine with no issues.
