Well I replaced my motor this year and bought a est dist kit after I got my ten hours of break in and when I would get on the throttle anything past about 3K it would start missing so I checked timing while I was on the water and right at 8 degrees and when you would reve it it would advance like it should. Well I bumped it up to about 12 degrees and it got better. So I kept going about 4 degrees at a time and have it all the way up to about 26 degrees just to get the boat to rev up to about 46-4800 so I figured I had distributer off a tooth. So today I pulled boat in the garage to get it squared away before I use it all weekend. But when I turn pull the number 1 plug and turn the crank my timing mark lines up with the tab. But depends on were you spin the distributer it would not line up with number one on the cap. I am not sure were the distributer should be droped in. On all the car stlye I have done you have to line up the rotor with a mark on the distributer. I am not sure were the plugs for the ignition module should face towards the rear or which side when I drop the dist in. Any good instructions or some pictures since I am confused.

Im pretty sure that dizzy only drops in 2 ways..So your either on or 180 degrees off.I really doubt its gonna run 180 off.1-3-4-2 clockwise is firing order.

On your dist you can make no 1 point to any of the contacts. Therfor the most important part is you need it to be on the
No 1 piston in the compresion stroke and the timming mark on tab to be 0.

Then mark which ever contact on the cap you want to be No 1. Now drop in dist with rotor pointing to that No 1 mark on dist cap. Now snug down the dist hold down so it will spin by hand only.

Now take your No1. plug wire and put on the No 1. mark on dist cap. Then follow your correct firering order for your motor to place all other plug wirers.

Just a note: Most people make the No 1 on dist cap pointing towards the coil, But it can point werever you want. The story is it can start on anyone of the plugs on the dist cap you just have to start with No 1.

Once it starts up then you can adjust your timming from there, This just gives you a starting point that is close to where it should be.

Hope this helps, Good luck!

It really doesn't matter where your distributor is dropped in. You rotate it until you get your proper timing and your done. You could be off 10 teeth and it wouldn't matter.
