I am looking at putting a Delco Voyager electronic ignition kit in my boat and just have a few questions, I have a 1985 Sea Ray DA with a 5.7. First of all do I need the black mercruiser ignition module that is mounted on the port manifold as mine is missing? Secondly, does this kit included an ignition module? I swear I read somewhere that it is inside the distributor. I know msd sells a complete plug and play kit but it is about dolllars more.

Re: Delco Voyager EST questions

if your buying the kit it comes complete.
you will have to modify your shift cut switch,if applicable, and wire it like a mercruiser that used EST as original equipment.
was used a lot on the 3.0.
no other parts are nessasary.

hi....was wondering how you made out with your voyager installation...I have a 1985 searay cuddy with a 5.7 OMC...had some real problems getting the advance set up properly...I followed the instructions that came with the kit...that was wrong...got most of my advice through this forum and is working better but still not where it should be...did you get yours working properly?

Hello,

I did get mine working correctly...Did you put the stint in to lock in the advance and then set the correct timing? Mine was perfect right out of the box and I didnt have to do anything.

Re: Delco Voyager EST questions

I did put in the bypass to set the initial timing...I did it according to the instructions I rec'd but when I removed the shunt the advance didn't go far enough and I lost my top end....I rec'd several recommendations from guys on this forum....most said set the initial advance then just run it up to max advance revs (3200 for the 5.7 apparently) and then adjust the advance until it hit 30 degrees at top dead centre...I did that and it improved but still not where it should be...further adjustments required I guess...
