Long time lurker, first time poster. I have a 470 that was converted over to an alternator by the previous owner. My question is NOT about an alternator setup, my question is: the PO left the voltage regulator and wiring from the harness attached to the regulator. He also left the stator installed but capped off the wiring. Would we be the issue in removing the stock regulator and just clamping a pipe nipple inline for the water connection and capping off the wires, thereby deleting the voltage regulator? Am I missing something why the regulator still needs to be there? Any input? Thanks.

Just replace the entire hose from transom to hx.
No clamps, no fittings, no restrictions, no scabbing in something thats not necessary. Eliminate all those future problems

my MCM470 engine replaced it the voltage regulator ....then 3yrs the regulator is dropping the voltage currents. then I updated the alternator many years ago ..I did not remove the voltage regulator ... I did not replace the hose .... so if you replaced that hose or with the connector ...
the stator wire is taped up ...
I did it working now the alternator ...
I did it decades ago coolant antifreeze 65% - distilled water 35% ...I had no leaks .......

No issue, but no benefit either. Don't you have enough to do to keep your 470 running 😀

Too funny! He will definately have plenty to do!
I removed mine because I hate leaving old junk thats been bypassed or disconnected. LOL
I must have removed 2 miles of old wiring from my boat when I aquired it back in 08. Some were live, some went nowhere. I see the same crap all the time at work. Wiring and plumbimg cut out, disconnected, but just left there. Drives me crazy!
Just pure laziness and leaves the next guy with no clue as to what hes looking at.

No it runs pretty good. I just like have a "clean" engine without extra wires and such. It does make it easier when you are on the water and something needs to be diagnosed quickly.
