Possible case of "we've been on this route 10 years, what could go wrong?"

Re: Delta Mariner

Took me a few to figure it out ... of course, when it dawned on me - Wikipedia already has an article on the whole thing

I'm still getting used to river haulers here in the south. I grew up on the Great Lakes and anything that is a commercial vessel on the water (in my head) looks like the Fitz and is accompanied by Gordon Lightfoot. Anyway - this mug is kinda' cool. She's hauling rocket parts for Boeing from Decatur, AL (parts came outta' Huntsville) and running the short loop (TN river/ Tenn-Tom) out to the gulf. Almost 400' long and draws about 14' of water.

Wonder if the captains last name is Schettino? ;)

^^^^ That's a dream trip someday. I've almost got the Admiral talked into it.

Must be some hellacious high water right now if they've been going under it for the last 10 years. I've read several stories on this and the rest were even more vague than the link. In fact, the linked story is the first I've seen mention of high water. I was wondering how a ship could suddenly be "too tall" after 10 years. Presumably it was empty and floating high on its way to pick up the cargo so why didn't it hit the?

Kinda' makes it a little worse, doesn't it? "Y'know, we've gone under THAT one for 10 years. I'm ready for a change ..."
