I left a 1400mg fish oil capsule and w a vitamin wrapped in tinfoil in the little coin pocket in a new pair of double faced jeans I really like. The boss washed and dried them and the capsule melted in the dryer, to my relief none of the other jeans (Bosses too) seem to smell afterward. The new jeans however have the not so pleasant smell of fish oil all around the pocket now. I have tried odor removeing products and soaks and washes in scent removeing detergents but the odor remains strong. Anyone have any ideas on removeing the odor?

Ayuh,.... Pine-sol....

Rub it into the area, throw 'em into the wash, with the usual soap, 'n a cup of the Pine-sol...
If ya got a soak cycle wash, use it...;)

Thankyou Bond-o, I never would have thought of that. I like the smell of Pinesol anyway!

Either that or burn them...downwind.

I had a buddy who chewed up a fish oil capsule on a dare. Good times...

My sentiments exactly!!!

There's people that pay a lot of money to smell like fish, and you're complaining about it for nearly free?

Put a cup of distilled vinegar in when you wash them next time. Won't hurt nothing and is good at removing odors. Lemon juice might also help but will also take some color with it.

Re: Deoderizing bluejeans

I've tried the pet odor stuff and not much difference. The funny thing is they seem to smell stronger each time they're washed! I think the oil has gotten down in the fibers. These are work pants and I work in close quarters w others alot and don't want to expose them to my stinky pants. It's just the area around the pocket and the jeans are heavy and thick and fit better than any I've got. The boss hates the smell of fish so I make it a point to hold her face and kiss her when I come home from fishing and greet her:D

When the wife and I were done with our Halibut charter in Alaska a few months ago, all our gear was pretty ripe. The people at the bed & breakfast where we stayed said that they had a friend who worked at the cannery that told them adding half a can of Coke to the washer would take care of it. We tried it, and don't know if it was the Coke, but didn't smell afterwards.

If you stop taking a shower no one will then notice the whiffy jeans.

Getting followed by the pack of Cats... :D

O.P...
Give what Bond-o said a try...
If the power of pine doesn't fully work, and you don't mind smelling like a cabbie, you could always stuff your pockets with these;

Personally I have used this stuff on stubborn stains/smelly stuff;

Re: Deoderizing bluejeans

My washing machine has a resevoir to add bleach. I add a cup of water, a splash of bleach (2 tablespoons I would guess) and then another cup of water to the resevoir. I have not ruined any clothes doing this yet. Ussually I do it if I forget about a load for a day or two and it mildews. In that case the bleach kills the smell every time.

Also if one of my kids gets sick I wash the bedding this way.

I guess I should say use this method at your own risk. What works in my machine may cause a disaster in yours.

Re: Deoderizing bluejeans

anytime I get weird smells on clothes I want to keep, I just find a shady area of my yard and hang them up there for a week or two (when its rainy is best).

airs whatever out nicely, then into the washing machine and back on my body.
