My depth finder runs fine while my 75 hp. motor is turned off, but as soon as I start the boat motor the depth finder goes crazy. When I turn the boat motor off the depth finder starts working correctly again. HELP! HELP!

Re: depth finder problems

interference from ignition?
run power wire directly to battery and try it
with the motor on. was this on the muffs or
underway? prop wash can interfere with transducer
reception too. where's it mounted?
good luck,
M.Y.

the depth finder worked fine for the first 3 years when I would run the boat but it recently started acting up whenever I started the motor?

My guess is fluctuating voltage while engine is running. rectifier/regulator problem?

You need to remove the accesories from your main battery or rebus it. Your motor is hcarging your battery. Putting electronics in a charging circuit is dangerous ( no more elctronics ) and will cause premature failure. Its safe to have several batterys on any size boat where a battery is required. Redundancy. I use a trolling motor battery for my electrics and have a small trickle charger inline. Blah Blah I know but if you have starting problems, another battery is piece of mind.
Capt E
