Depth Finder Transducer Cable.?

I got an old depth finder that I would like to move from the front to the back of the boat. I already have a transducer mounted at the rear of the boat from another old paper unit that I no longer use. The transducers each look the same, same size shape and mounting hole locations, however the plug leads that go into the unit are different.

Do you think that there will be any problems if I cut the lead off and splice on the one for the unit I want to use?

My guess is that it won't work. Identical transducers should (stress SHOULD) have the same plug configuration. When I accidently trashed my Eagle transducer...I was surprised to see how many different transducers there are.

Before you cut and snip...I suggest you find out for sure! Try to get the model/serial numbers of the graph or depthfinder from which these transducers came with. Call your local marine electronics dealer with that info...he outta be able to tell you what you need to know.

Walt

Don't cut the cables. I tried that once and it never worked correctly again. I had to buy a new cable with transducer and mount it in the hull. The problem I had with that is another story.

Well, I appreciate the suggestions, and you're probably right... But I did it anyway... There is basically one wire with heavy plastic insulation surrounded by ground/interference strands.... I had this cable cut once before by accident, it was repaired and worked good.

The splicing is critical, used shrink insulation, made sure the outer ground was well connected. Fired it up and it works.... I guess I got lucky....

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Ya can't argue with success, I reckon!

Glad it worked out...

Walt
