Depth Finder Wire extending

I recently bought a used depth finder and the power wire is too short to get to my battery. Am I ok to find the same gauge wire and soldier the wires together? Or is it necessary to buy an extension of some sort? Thanks for all your help.

power wire is fine to extend, other are not.
