I have a 20ft Pontoon. The transducer is located at the end of the left pontoon. I cannot pick up bottom unless traveling at a very slow speed. Is there some sort of adjustment I can do to make this pick up bottom when going at a faster speed? I have been in other boats that get readings while traveling at full speed. This was installed when I bought boat from dealer and is Garmin fishfinder.

Re: Depth finder..

The moderator will probably move this to marine electronics, but in the meantime...

Try lowering the transducer. The bottom of the transducer should be 1/4 inch below the bottom of the pontoon. If it is already that low, try a little lower. Also can try angling it down a little. Otherwise take a picture and we might be able to offer other suggestions. You might have to expeirment with positioning (left-right) on pontoon. There are also clamp-on brackets such that you are not forced to mount on pontoon. It would get it out of the turbulance caused by the pontoon.

Anything that causes turbulence (bubbles) in the water flow under the transducer will cause it to lose bottom. It's either not set low enough, angled incorrectly or there is something on the bottom of the tube that is causing too much turbulence. Also check to make sure it's mounted tightly. It may be pivoting upward at speed.
