I have a 2006 pt 175 tracker bass boat with a factory installed Lowrance depth finder and stern mounted transducer. The depth finder is fine idling around but gives no reading when on plane. I have had some depth finders on fiberglass boats and they all worked just fine. I have talked to a couple of people and they have the same problem with this hull.
This aluminum tracker has an odd ledge in the back, Does this make bubbles that inhbiit reading the depth? Is it even possible to get a depth finder working on this hull when at speed? Do any of you folks have a good experience or does yours not work as well? I really can't use a boat where I have to stop to read the depth finder. This finder is supposed to work at 70mph. Thanks for any assistance.

Re: depth finder

I had a 2001 Pro Crappie 175, similar hull to yours maybe, and the depth finder would only work occasionally work while the boat was on plane.

It might be the hull design as Lowrance on the Targa I have now always reads the correct depth.

Re: depth finder

I believe you are correct about the hull. A guy on another forum said the tracker pt175 is a revolution hull and the transducer must be mounted on the pad which is at an offset from the transom. Evidently the transom is out of the water when on plane and running on the pad. If you look underneath a trailered boat you can easily see what he is talking about. Thanks all.

Re: depth finder

I corrected this problem when I mounted my aftermarket Humminbird 3D. I mounted the transducer more towards the side of the boat. There is always a steady flow of water at this point on the inside of the outter chine on those models. Works good for me, ever when bank turning hard. Where the red arrow is:

Re: depth finder

I have a 2001 pt165 and i had the same problem.....but thankfully the crappy humminbird factory unit went out and I put a lowrance 5x on it brand new for 159 dollars and moved the transducer more toward the middle, I thought I had screwed up because it was kind of close to the motor but it has NEVER not read while idiling or on PLANE........highly reccomend this unit......

I have a 2010 PT 170 and have the same problem, I guess I will try one of the suggestions listed.
