Hi guys, thanks for the very useful forum from a newbie.

I've recently bought a bowrider for towing the kids around and it doesn't have a depth gauge. I've had a look around and found the usual dash-mounted ones that go for around $120.
I also came across this type http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Fish-Fin...210185?hash=item1c6b980909:g:cy4AAOSw-YVXm~HY

has anyone had any experience of the 'cheaper' type, I won't be fishing so really only need the depth finder function.

Thanks
Grant

:welcome: aboard gsaps. Nice to have you join us...

I have never seen or heard anything about that depth locator. So I can't offer any yea's or nay's towards that setup. But personally I would go with the basic models of most any reputable manufacture like Lowrance, or Hummingbird. And then if you decide to sell either of them off down the road, they will have a better resell value. But that is just me. JMHO

thanks for the welcome and the quick reply, since posting, i've had another trawl around and seems there are some pretty reasonably priced 'brand name' ones that might be a better bet than a no-name one

Howdy,

Hawkeye depth sounders have a good reputation and the D10d and D10x (includes water temp) have three transducer mounting choices - Transom mount, glue in and thru-hull. The thru-hull requires a hole through the bottom. Reasonable prices too, a little over $100 with shipping.

The iBOATS store carries the D10d.
