Hi everybody I am new here:). I reciently bought a 2011 glastron mx 185 with a 4.3 merc and I can't seem to get the depth/temp gauge to work, it comes on but the just blinks on and off showing 60ft and -4f for the temp. I went through the menu on it(the gauge) but can't figure it out. I did a search here but came up with nothing so any help would be great. From what i gather its a lowerance 3800 lcd. thanks

Re: depth /temp gauge ?

Welcome to iboats!

There should be two cables attached to the back of the unit: power and transducer. The power cable should be very obvious. The transducer could be mounted on the transom or it could be glued to the hull in the bilge. Since you can't get a proper water temperature reading from the latter installation, the former is more common. I think you probably have a break in the transducer cable or a bad transducer.

Hi again, I had a look at the wiring today and found to wires were unhooked which according to the manual go to the power and ground on the battery, I hooked those up and no difference. Anyhow whats the best way one get the old transducer off the floor, its glued to the floor in the bilge. thanks again for your time

If the unit powered up and you were able to step through the menu prior to this, then the wires you saw and hooked up were not for the depth/temp gauge. If they were, the unit would not have powered up prior to this.

I agree with you but I figured the gauge had a seperate power source than the transducer and the manual said to hook those wires up to the battery. thanks for the help

If it's a 2011, isn't there any dealer service/warranty you can take it to? Or was it a private sell?

there is but its a 3 hour drive to the dealer which will cost me 150 in gas easy round trip and a day off work. I also noticed a clicking noice comming from the transducer when it is turned on

Re: depth /temp gauge ?

The transducer does not have a separate +12 volt and ground connection and the gauge itself could not be blinking if it's power was not connected so those wires could not have been for the depth/temp gauge.. The transducer does have a separate cable but it goes to the gauge. You are advised to stop fooling with wiring unless you know what you playing with. Lastly, if the transducer is pulsing your hand, it is working. The gauge will not provide a reading however, unless the boat is in the water.

Re: depth /temp gauge ?

thanks for the advise, I have wired in many gauges and other electrical things in my cars so i am no expert but i have good understanding of whats going on and in owners manual thats how it shows to hook it up. In the water it shows the same but I 'll leave it to the dealer to fix it up I guess thats whats warrenty is for:). Thanks for all your time and advise
