I made the bone-headed move of leaving my Mercruser I/O 4.3 a little late last fall to get winterized, and am concerned about damage from freezing. I did have it winterized, but it was definately late. The shop that winterized it said they ran the motor on a hose, and didn't detect any problems, but they said I wouldn't know for sure until I run the engine hard for a while in the water.

My question is what to I need to be looking for when I take it for it's first test, and what risk is there that I will need a tow back to shore?

Re: detecting late winterization damage

Check out some of the other posts here...a lot of information. Water in oil, bildge, leaking from block, manifolds, etc. Run the engine on muffs (again) before heading to the water, no tow required. Best of Luck. JR
