Determining Horsepower

My mother-in-law has a 17' Larson with a fairly powerful inboard/outboard merc. How do I determine the horsepower on that engine??<br /><br />Jason

how about; is it 4cyls, 6cyls, 8cyls, any tags on it anywhere?? you HAVE to provide a little bit of info......the batteries are Dead on my crystal Ball

The motor is a six cyl. Beyond that, I can't find any tags or markings. Should there be some markings somewhere on the engine?

IN GENERAL; if it's a inline 6, it's about 165hp... if it's a V6, it Could be from 140hp to 205hp.......if i could see it through your eyes, i could narrow that down a bit..!!!!!!

I think the 6 inlines run from 115-200hp about? Get the serial number normally on the transom clamp (on a plate most of the time, tilt motor down and look by steering cable/tiller area) for a Merc, then search this site for the serial list to find out what it is.
