I have a Prestolite ,Leece-Neville 90 amp upgrade alternator kit, #S495106.

it has a prestolite 8MR2070TA # as well

I picked it up when i bought a marina out. The problem i have is it is hard to find what engines it goes to. I have found that wake boarders and some ski boats often upograde the alternators in their boats to power more accessories. And this is what this is for.

Is there a way to cross reference the #'s to find what applications it fits. It is brand new , unused.

if anyone knows what it might fit, please help me out. thanks

2008 baliner 3.0 alternator question

2008 baliner 3.0 alternator question

I have a brand new prestolite Leece-neville 90 amp upgrade alternator. Id like to know if it will fit my GFs Bayliner with 3.0 mercruiser.

her son added a wake board tower to the boat and i have a bunch of high end lights that can mount on it, and we might add an upgraded stereo system. if this alternator is bigger than his factory one and it will fit...maybe he can use it. I know when i looke dit up according to the model # that it was mentioned as used in wake board boat motor applications for added electrical power usage.

I can not find any type of cross reference info...or any info as to what the alternator was designed to fit. making me think it fits almost anyhting that it can bolt to. BUT, i dont want to try and install it unless i get some advice first

i have the box the alternator came in and it wa sshipped from Inmar Products Inc

Re: 2008 baliner 3.0 alternator question

It has a 65A alternator on it now, I can't see you needing more than that for lights on a boat the size that uses a 3.0L.

Sure, it could be wired in, but you would have to install bigger wiring from the alternator to the starter and probably bigger wiring to the fuse panel where you hook up the lights.
Sounds more like you need another battery, not a larger alternator.

Ayuh,.... Inmar builds Alota V8 in-boards,...

I don't think they do the 3.0l motors...

Re: determining what motor an Alternator fits

I merged both of your posts together since it's basically the same question, please don't post the same thing in more than one forum.

As far as your question what it fits, call Indmar. If you got it from them, I would bet money they know what it would fit.

Prestolite ,Leece-Neville 90 amp upgrade alternator kit, #S495106

That particular alternator is a universal, and basically you just make it fit, it wasn't for any specific engine.

thanks....

no links i have found...(many) work for Indmar

are they still in business?

is it possible to damage his motor or battery if the stronger alternator is isntalled???

does the 3.0 have a regulator mounted on its own?

thanks again

No on both counts.

But for more amps, it takes HP from the engine to turn the high amperage alternator. Will they stand for less hp, just to have lights and a stereo?
As I said before, you need a larger house battery, not a bigger alternator. Those lights and stereo do not run off the alternator, and I can't imagine you using 90 amp hours of power on a small boat powered by a 3.0L engine.

Add up all the input amperage of the lights and sound system and see what you come up with.
