Determining what year model parts will work with other year models???

I was wondering if anyone knows of any guide that details what parts will work with other year models. For instance, say you have a 2002 150 powerhead (carb). I would like to know what other year models this could be bolted to. Also, say you needed a lower unit. How would you know for sure what other year models you could use that would work?

go to crowley marine denver great diagrams, parts list, ect look up different years around your make and mod match part #,s thats what i have done works for me.
