Dewintering my Volvo engine

hey all, I have kind of a basic but very important question. I recently got my boat from a guy that winterized it last fall, and hasn't put it in the water yet this spring/summer, so it's still winterized from the marine he took it to. What is involved in dewinterizing a boat? I know all the water was drained out of the block, but I don't know if I just need to drop it in and let it fill itself or exactly what. I live in Iowa, so I can't just toss it in the water immediately, but want to get a bit of a head start so when the flood receeds, I'm ready to go!

Yes, I read it. I guess I didn't make it clear though, I was asking more specifically about my Volvo motor and outdrive in particular.

just douple check all of your hoses and make sure they are nice and tight, put your muffs on the outdrive and start her up. it wont take long before the engine is purged free of air. watch the temp gauge and watch for water leaks. other than that you should be good. what kind of boat do you have?

I was asking more specifically about my Volvo motor and outdrive in particular.

I drain my outdrive in the fall to make sure there is no water, if you just bought the boat i would drain it anyway just to check for water to see if you need to replace any seals. your outdrive is most likely the last thing you should worry about, but it is good to check for water and make sure the diff fluid level is at the high mark on the dipstick.
