DF 70 trim problems

I have a 2000 DF70 Suzuki 4-stroke. Recently, the motor will not trim up every time--it is intermittent. I switched the down PTT relay with the up relay and it worked. So I bought a new relay to replace the up one. Unfortunately, when I did the original switch, I didn't trim the motor up and down as many times as I should have. The motor still has intermittent trim up problems with the new relay, and I switched them one more time to check to make sure the new relay wasn't bad as well. But it doesn't matter, the motor still will not trim up consistently with either relay. It doesn't matter if I use the switch on the motor or the one on the the throttle. I checked and cleaned the contact connecting the relay to the switches-didn't help. What next? I'm assuming the trim motor is okay if it always works when trimming down. Although a 2000, this motor has only ~ 100hrs on it and it looks practically brand new underneath the cawling. Any help?

Re: DF 70 trim problems

you always replace both relays, they ground through each other
might want to clean the connections also

Re: DF 70 trim problems

IF I remember correctly, there was a recall for trim switch problems on that motor. It was a new relay wiring assembly that was installed.

Re: DF 70 trim problems

seems bezerk was right. i put the original up relay back in--the one i thought was bad--and replaced the down relay with the new one that i bought. the motor hasn't missed a beat trimming up or down since. of course, i probably just jinxed myself.
thanks bezerk!
