Is the speed pick-up in the lower unit in a DF115 (new)???
New Landaue pontoon has 2 transducers, one on each side, but depth finder does not have speed.
Pontoon has speedo,(Gauge) but is 100 miles from here.
Customer asked dealer in K.C. to install a good quality depth finder as part of the sale of the boat..they agreed and put a pirana dinky junker on it....great dealer support.
Boat has about 40 hours on it now and speedo only reads after attaining full RPM at which it only reads about 10mph, that's why I'm wondering if pick-up for speedo is in lower unit as some other manufacturers are.
Thanks.

Do you find that the fish finder speedo is accurate to a GPS? My pitot reads high by 7 MPH relative to GPS. (I'm going to look for a plugged input now).

Forget the motor pickup just buy a flip up transom mount pickup and a hunk of speedo hose. Life is too short.

Re: DF115, speedo pick-up????

stinkylinky :The fish finder speedo gives the speed of the boat thru the water. The gps gives the speed over the ground. If you are running against the current the FF speedo is going to be higher than the gps. The Pitot tube will also read higher than the gps since it uses the pressure of the water rising in the tube. The location of the pickup on the Suzuki df115 is troublesome since it is prone to get plugged up, if it is plugged up the reading is probably going to be slower than the gps. I recently read an article that claims that Boat Manufactures use a certain brand of speedo, which shows faster speed than the boats publihed speed. It makes their Boats look better than they actually are. Hope this helped.
