i raised my motor up, havent had it out yet i raised it two holes= 1", now the anti-cavitation plate is 1" above the bottom of the transom. is it ok for the anti-cav plate to be above the bottom of the transom? i would think as long as i am not ventilating and the water intake is below the water line it would be ok! but i see many posts that say dont go above the bottom of the transom. :)

Re: Dhadley: x dimension question

The X dimension largely depends on the marriage between the hull and the propeller. If the prop can run at or near the surface, then go for it. It means less drag from the gearcase. There is no set absolute X dimension for every boat. Thats why motors have alternate mounting holes. And why jackplate companies are doing so well.

With race boats when we talk X dimension we never refer to the cav plate -- we refer to the centerline of the propshaft in relation to the true bottom of the boat. On my V bottom drag boat the prop shaft was centered on the bottom of the pad. But that prop was almost 1000.00.

The prop will let you know when it quits liking height.

Good luck!
