Re: diagram for motor mounts.
How can you tell if they need to be replaced?
When the rubber separates from the metal, or the rubber is real soft, the mounts should be replaced. If the alignment suddenly goes out of adjustment and the front mount hasn't been touched, they may be bad.
I noticed that where the front of the engine mounts to the hull,on both sides it looks like the fiberglass is cracking.
The factory installer probably didn't drill a big enough pilot hole, or didn't drill one at all, for the lag bolts used to hold the front motor mount to the base.
Can you also tell me what the name of the part of the hull where the motor mounts to.
There probably is a name for it, but I don't remember what it is. Cross stringer, motor mount base????
Is it hard to replace them, and whats the best way to fix the crack in the hull?
To replace the rear mounts you have to remove the engine, press out the old mounts and press in the new ones.
To repair the fiberglass, best to post that over in the restoration and hull repair forum, they cover fiberglass repair.
