Is there any negative effect from prop that is slightly different then the manf. spec? For example, if spec call for a 13 1/4 in, can I get by with a 13 inch? what about a 14 inch, granted that clearance is good with the 14 incher?

Re: Diameter??

I don't think diameter will affect performance that much, pitch and cup is what really affects performance, diameter is in the equation but a small diameter change is not going to make a great difference.

Re: Diameter??

Going to a 13 from 13-1/4 would be hardly noticeable and that happens when changing pitch within the same prop design. But going from 13-1/4 to 14 would create some change assuming the props are the same design from the same manufacturer since more diameter usually means more blade area so some change would likely occur. If the props are very different in design there may be a rather significant change but only part of the change would be due to diameter.

Exactly. A different diameter can make a huge difference. Good or bad. It just depends on what the manufacturer does with the extra or less blade area.

It also depends on how you adjust your set up for a different diameter. It may only be a 1/4" different but that's only part of it.
