Did I buy the right GPS / Fishfinder?

Was looking at two different GPS / fishfinder combo models. The Hummingbird 161 ($299 retail) and the Lowrance M68C ($399 retail). The biggest difference I see is obviously the Lowrance has a color screen, has a wider sonar range, and a few more bells and whistles like more waypoints and markers. The Humminbird actually has a 1/2 larger screen, more RMS power and higher peak power.

Long story short, I won an ebay auction for the humminbird for $212 brand new in box. For some reason I keep thinking about that Lowrance, but feel I got a great deal and the extra $$ isnt worth it, mainly for the color screen.

We boat on Lake Norman (good size lake) and I'm mainly interested in the GPS for the navigation, speed, and setting key destinations so I can find my way back to cool spots. The fishfinder feature will mostly be used for depth purposes, and about 10% of the time for fishing. Based on the cost, did I make the right choice on this one? Thanks for any thoughts or anyone that has used either one of these.

The biggest issue is how well you can read the screen in sunlight

Lowrance is great in this aspect i can not coment on your unit

Hey Ozzydude, havent hooked it up yet. I'll repost as soon as I can. I have a 6 week old baby at home, so my garage time is taking a hit...

Just reading through the manual and looking at the unit itself, I think it will more than suffice for what I need especially at the price i paid. I saw the 161 at walmart for like $280 the other day too.

Yeah i'm debating between yours and a 363 model. The 363 is 299.99 and then there's the 383c which is the same but in color and it's running 399.99. I just can't see spending 100.00 more for color but thats just me.

I think the extra 100 bucks for color is a steal.
I run a lowrance 332LMS and love it.
