Did I do it Right - Thermostat

Hi,<br />I have a 1987 Mercruiser 350 S/B 260 hp. Replaced the thermostat yesterday. The one in the engine was the original. Just want to make sure I have it right. Reinstall went like this. First cork rubber gasket(not o ring), then thermostat, then retainer cup(don't know what else to call it), finally top gasket, then cover and tighten bolts.<br />Thanks Roman

If your thermostat housing looks like the one below, you should have put the cork gasket (#6) above the thermostat (#5).<br />There were 3 thermostat housing designs for your model, if you don't have a housing like the one pictured, you should also have an oring, and the locations would be diffent.<br />That's why we in the trade use service manuals before putting things together.<br /><br />
