Did I fry something??

I have a 2004 johnson 9.9 four stroke that i was mounting and when i flung the battery cables toward the battery, one of the leads hit the opposite tterminal on the battery and caused some smoking and burnt wire smell. I don't know if the positive lead touched the negative post or vise versa? I looked all over the wires and cannot visually see any burnt anything, but it had to of, with the smoke. I put the cables on the right posts and the motor fires up just fine. The only thing is fter half throttle, the motor don't wanna rev out. So, am I missing something? Or any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

If both cable hit the same post, neg or pos, no current could flow. If they made contact backwards, pos to neg and neg to pos, rectifiers are often the sacrificial lamb in the charging circuit. Where was the smoke coming from? Inside the cowl, outside the cowl? Hot shorted wires usually have melted insulation sort of on them.

Not sure exactly where the smoke came from? I jumped down, got the wire off and pulled the hood off, but didn't pay close attention to exactly where it was coming from. The leads are covered in a protective casing, should I split the casing nd check the leads inside the casing? Would any of this make it run worse like I described? Thanks

Ok, I found no problems with any wiring. My question now is, is this motor governed? Or do need a carb cleaning? It runs fine up to half throttle and when I floor it, it sounds like it is running out of gas. I put brand new fuel lines on to the tank and notice the fuel filter never fills up, just pumps to halfway and it runs up n down on the inlet and outlet, so I dont see how the thing even gets fuel??? Never owned a four stroke before, so don't know if I am missing something or what
