Did Johnson/Evinrude ever make a set of old controls with a key start built in?

That pretty much says it all. I have several sets of the old dual cable controls but would not like one with a standard old 5 screw ignition switch built in. Do they exist? I've never seen one. Thx.

Not if you are talking about the Ship Master / Simplex controls.

I was. But did they make later dual cable controls with a built in 5 wire ignition switch?

Well sure, if you move up to the 1970's or later. But they would be single lever, dual cables. I have one on my 1984 35hp, came with the motor.

Dang. I've never liked single levers. It's like having an automatic in a car. Don't like them either. Ok, thx. I'll hafta work around it. I didn't think they had em.

If you want the key switch next to the control unit, you might consider making an aluminum or wood box that is just wide enough for the switch and otherwise the same dimensions as a Shipmaster/Simplex box. Set it up to accept the key switch and electric choke toggle. With a couple of bolt holes on both sides of the box, you could mount both it and the control unit with bolts that pass all the way through both.

This would take a little fabrication, but I don't think it would be too difficult.

Yes they did. I have one in my garage just now. It is a 50HP unit with a 6 screw ignition-key barrel set into the throttle mounting by the driver seat.
