Improperly prepared for the winter season it looks like. And I`ll bet the water the boat was in didn`t freeze either.

I think he was being sarcastic...;) The pics are too small to see the damage.

Ayuh,... I've got a few remenants of that same drive combo that froze on a hook, bobbing in the salt off Maine...

A floatin' boat will take colder temps than 1 on a wagon, but not That Cold, That Long..

If it had been Drained,... You wouldn't have been makin' that call..

I got that feeling that the Lake Norman and Lake Wylie shops will be busy this year!
I have 2 in line myself but thank goodness they are both outboards.
I had a guy on LN call me about 3 weeks ago asking about what damage he could have after leaving it in the slip all winter...

Re: did my motor freeze

It just points out the risk of leaving an IO that is not closed cooled in the water not prepared for winter...I would never leave any inboard in the water in the winter...even closed cooled...here it gets that cold all the time and the raw water intake line could freeze...split...then when it thaws...the boat could take on water and sink. Yes many boats do spend the winter in water but they are properly prepared...shrink wrapped...and drained and then back filled with -100 AF....the weather here is such that winter is very unpredictable...the water might never freeze (salt) or the harbor could freeze over the whole month of Jan...if you were going to do this with a smaller boat an OB is the only way to go...no I/Os shold be left in the water....

Drove by Lake Norman on Jan. 15, 2010 (US Rt 77). Sure looked frozen to me. Looks like even some of the "lucky" 470 owners are going to be buying some new heat exchangers:eek:.
