Hello,
I have a 2007 bayliner 175 with a 3.0 Alpha 1 Gen 2. I had to remove the lower unit due to some skeg damage to get repaired. I rebuilt the water pump, re-assembled and filled with new gear oil. There were no leaks, and everything seemed fine. Test ran, no water in the lower unit. Used it for an entire weekendwith no sign of anything wrong.
We got home, and I lifted the bow as high as the jack would hold it, outdrive still trimmed fully up, and left it for the past week and a half. Today's forecast is for a low of -4C, so I thought I would at least quickly drain the water out of hte engine, and I notice that there is a bit of an oil leak at the front of the lower unit. It is leaking where if bolts to the rest of the outdrive, right at the front. I did use a screwdriver to seperate the 2 halves, but the mark was minimal. Checked and there is no water in the gear case, bolts are tight. It has leaked about 1/5 or so of the minder resevoir.
There must be something that I did when I re-assembled that is wrong? Is there an o-ring in there somewhere? The manual really doesn't show much? Wondering what could be up. I lowered the bow and will keep an eye on it, but if oil can get out, I am concerned that water can get in obviously. Anyone have any ideas? Also how does that resevoir attach to the lower unit, when I took it apart, I really couldn't find any way that it connected except for maybe a port in the lower unit? that or it seemed like there was alot of oil coming down the drive shaft.
Anyone who knows much about this, please chime in.
Thanks in advance
Sheldon
