Hey all,
Well I joined the fourm and have spent two day reading post and I think I have it. Background first...First boat, had it for a week, took it out and it ran fine, throttle was very stiff but never having a boat don't know if that the norm? after an hour of tubing with the kids put it in (n) and it didn't want to go into gear anymore. stalled everytime.

4.3L merc, Alpha 1 gen two (1993)

it's either the kill switch or the lower shift cable?
Check the (bellows?) and Gimble? bellows ( boot looking thing) Gimble not sure as all the pic's i've seen don't point it out well, guessing it's the bearing that the shaft rides on?

Check the lower unit oil, look for shaving using the lower drain.

Have I got it? Thanks a lot...I was very worried I mad a mistake but this site really help us newbie's move forward.

Ayuh,....

Welcome Aboard, Regal,....

I'd say your Lower Shift Cable is probably Shot,+ needs Replacing......
Obviously,... The Switch Is in fact Working,....
It's killing the motor because the cable is Tight......

If you wander over Here,... You'll find copies of the Manuals for your driveline....

Ayuh,...

At the Top of this page,.... Click on Mercruiser Parts,......
iboats sells Seirra aftermarket parts,....
Napa carries the Same line.....

Personally,...
I'm Biting the Bullet,+ buying the Shift Cable from my local Marina, aka: Mercruiser factory parts....
The Rest of the parts I'll be using to Refresh My transom assembley will be Seirra.....

The Merc shift cables now have the inner cable coated with teflon. Makes them shift smooth and wear less for years. They cost just under $70. After you see what it takes to change one, that little difference from a cheap $60 aftermarket cable won't mean very much.

Ayuh,....

It's due to Your prodding that I'm going that route,.....

I've got over 8 years on the 1s installed with the refit,... Seirras, from Napa....
My outdrive Guy, Dave, says he'll do it for a Buck,+ a half,....
The Skin on My Knuckles are worth More than that,..... I'll let Him do it.... ;)
