Difference between 400 and 800

Can anyone explain the difference between a OMC Stringer 400 and 800 outdrive?

Ayuh,.... Night, 'n Day...

The 400 was used with Little motors, 'n the 800 with Big motors...
They share pretty much Nothing..

the 400 and 800 uppers use the same housings.
The 400 lower is physically smaller, uses lighter needle bearings, different size gears, and a smaller 13T propshaft spline (vs. 15T on the 800). 400 lower is only good to 150HP.

Ok thks that clears it up, I have a 84 800 with a 3.8L and was curious what parts were similar with a 400.

2 or 4 cylinders in front of it :) 400 was for 4cyl 120 & 140 HP only while the 800 was for 6 & 8cyl engines.
