I bought some Quicksilver Outdrive gear oil that's tan color but the oil that's currently in the drive from when I bought the boat is blue. I assume the dealer used genuine Mercruiser oil. I thought Quicksilver was genuine Mercruiser too so I'm curious what the difference is & if there's any problem with mixing them?

Tan colored oil, have not seen Tan my Merc is green. Quicksilver and Merc are the same so far as I know. Just bought 3 cases from Wal-mart

Re: Difference in Mercruiser oils

there are two grades. Quick sliver premium and Quick silver high performance

Premium Gear Lube | Mercury Marine

High-Performance Gear Lube | Mercury Marine

right from their site

Mercury Premium SAE 80W90 Gear Lube is recommended for lower units for outboards below 75 horsepower.

Mercury Premium SAE 80W90 Gear Lube should not be mixed with Mercury High-Performance SAE 90 Gear Lube.

Ah, looks like I got the Premium when I should have gotten the High Performance :( Glad I asked before using it.

Actually, for your boat, while you could probably use either and be "just fine",

From MerCruiser Maintenance FAQs | Storage & Maintenance MerCruiser FAQs | Mercury Marine
Should I use Premium Blend or High Performance gear lube in my sterndrive?

Mercury High Performance gear lube is recommended for use in all sterndrives.

High-Performance Gear Lube | Mercury Marine

Like indicated above and from Mercury Marine:
Mercury Premium SAE 80W90 Gear Lube is recommended for lower units for outboards below 75 horsepower.
Mercury Premium SAE 80W90 Gear Lube should not be mixed with Mercury High-Performance SAE 90 Gear Lube.
