Differences between 1976 55hp Evinrude and Johnson

Is a 1976 55hp Evinrude virtually the same as a Johnson of that same year? Would the wiring diagrams, IPB's, and part numbers be the same in either shop manual. I searched the back posts about this and found only two threads, neither of which gave me the answer I was looking for. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give me.

At the old OMC plant, as the new motors were test started, any motor that had a problem was given a Johnson hood -- or was it an Evinrude hood?<br /><br />Seriously, in the vintage you are speaking of they are the same.<br /><br />What is it eaxctly you are trying to do?

Thanks for the information. An acquaintance has a shop manual for that year/hp Johnson. I have an Evinrude, but would prefer to buy it from him than from E-bay.<br /><br />Thanks again.
